Caregiving ~ Alzheimer's ~ Dementia ~ Life

Things
That Help

Help from unusual resources...
Can we learn from Fred Rogers and Ted Lasso?

Or how about the books, "The 36 Hour Day" and "The Green Mile? " Or, "Yellowstone" and "Eckhart Tolle? "
Yes! Wisdom is learned from all sources.
Stories keep us grounded.
Their message helps us grow as a person.
When we only look in places we expect to find answers, we could miss some of the wisest teachers
we are ever given.
See where unexpected help can be found...

CAREGIVING BOOKS and HELP.
MOVIE PICKS FROM Forgive & Forget USERS
Filmed from the perspective of a father with dementia. This film not only hits home, but hits it out of the park!
Two Academy Awards, oodles of nominations. Bring Kleenex.
Superbly done. You won't be disappointed. PROMISE

BOOKS THAT TIPPED ME OVER
IN A GOOD WAY

JODI TAYLOR
Jodi takes us to historical places hysterically. Places and events I wind up Googling because they are so interesting! This series ("The Chronicles of St. Mary's") are a much needed escape. Every book allows us to leave our stress on the shelf and put to work our unused, dormant imaginations.
Read on your own, or, my favorite, read expertly on Audible. (Skip Book 1 on Audible, however, the rest are super).

ARMOR TOWLES

A Short Story, 5 Stars, 1 hour, 47 min. I am a John Lithgow fan and BOY he does a roaringly wonderful job narrating. I smiled and laughed out loud. FUN!

STEPHEN KING
I knnoww!!!
Mr. King wrote phenomenal books not all of gore 'n gutts. For instance, "11/22/63," "The Shawshank Redemption," and
"The Green Mile."
"If it Bleeds" is a super great continuation of the "Mr. Mercedes" series, terrifically read on Audible read by Will Patton.

A new series by Jodi Taylor and a continuation of the St. Mary's series. It is JUST as fabulous with a new cast of hilarious characters and situations. Her rope lasso's you from page 1~
Books
How in the world can these help us be better caregivers?
1) There is always a take-away in good films, books, or short dramas. Always.
2) There is always a need for a caregiver to take a break.
3) Each program taught me something about myself and caregiving.
4) Every lesson is transferrable to the rest of our lives.

It took decades to accomplish, but I have read every book, watched every movie, documentary, and series listed in this section. I would not recommend them otherwise. -Vic

Why am I suggesting these little books? Because words matter,
and here's the proof.
The Experiment
Different words were written on
beakers of water, even projected thoughts.
Then they were frozen.
And what happened was astonishing.
What we say as caregivers matters.
What we say to one another matters.
